Ralph Plaisted began riding snowmobiles in the early 1960s and he recognized early these vehicles’ tremendous potential. After a ride from Ely to St. Paul that jumpstarted the fabled "Winnipeg," Plaisted began planning his 1968 conquest of the North Pole.
